6 246 rehabilitation means and prosthetic-orthopedic products have been given to persons with disabilities by the Prosthetic-Orthopedic Rehabilitation Centre of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan, its branches in Ganja and Nakhchivan production area in January-March of this year.

Along with free legal services rendered at the Resource Centre, the lawyers of the Resource Centre deliver, on a monthly basis, free on-site legal services in the regions. On 28 March 2017, the next on-site free legal services will be organised and delivered in Ganja city, at the Ganja Regional Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Ombudsperson’s Office.

Candoco Dance Company, the contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers at 19:00 on 7-8 March 2017 at the Azerbaijan State Academic Drama Theatre. The project is organised with the support of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Yarat Contemporary Art Space and Azerbaijan State Academic Drama Theatre. Candoco’s performances in Baku mark the launch of a new British Council new programme that will offer disabled artists in Azerbaijan unprecedented opportunities to develop professionally and create new work and collaborate internationally.

Brutal annihilation of hundreds of blameless in- habitants of Khojaly was one of the most heinous crimes during the armed conflict in and around the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Armenian armed forces and foreign military units spared virtually none of those who had been unable to flee Khojaly and the surrounding area. As a result, 613 persons were killed, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 elderly people. 1,275 inhabitants were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 persons remains un- known to this day. In the course of the tragedy 487 inhabitants of Khojaly were severely maimed, including 76 children not yet of age. 8 families were completely wiped out, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children one of their parents. Of those who perished, 56 persons were killed with especial cruelty: by burning alive, scalping, beheading, gouging out of eyes, and bayoneting of pregnant women in the abdomen.

On January 15, 2016, a meeting was held at Ganja State University for the “Establishment of a Foundation for the Integration of Disabled People into HEIs of Azerbaijan” (ESFIDIP) TEMPUS project. The meeting included a dissemination conference entitled “Break Obstacles and Open Doors for Education.” The main objective of the conference was to inform the public about the project and the current work being undertaken by local partner universities to prepare policies and establish Centers for Students with Disabilities and recruit more students üith disabilities to higher education institutions

On January 28, 2016, Davud Rahimli, the president of Union of Disabled People Organizations, appeared as a guest on the Moring Bell broadcast on APA TV. During the program, Mr. Rahimli spoke about the problems that people with disabilities face today and measures taken by the Republic of Azerbaijan to solve this issue, including conventions it has signed and legislation it has passed related to inclusive education.

The activity of non-governmental organizations of people with disabilities on the implementation of the UN Convention "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" in the regions of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, in cooperation with public authorities post-Soviet countries, local governments at all levels (regions, cities, municipalities, villages and settlements), international partners, with the obligatory participation of people with disabilities in these processes through the effective application of articles 4,29, 32 and 33 of the Convention.
